We’ve found what appear to be the minutes of the very first committee meeting of the Mildmay Radical Club on 10th June 1888.
High up in the attic, covered in a thick layer of dirt, were dozens of notebooks documenting the life of the club in its early years.
President Tom Jones, and committee members Jon Riley and Viv Jeffreys (who’s also our club archivist who’ll be sorting it all out) look pretty excited at what they found!
And a mystery…who is this very grand gentleman hiding away among the dusty journals? A club president perhaps? No, not the one of the left.
Recently found in my attic when moving out was a small medal box in which the medal enclosed was engraved on the back
C.I.Eldred 1924
The front of the medal says 21 years Member Mildmay Radical Club
Would you be happy for me to forward it to you. It has no relevance to me as my late husband found it originally in the same place in 1997 when me moved to Hadleigh Benfleet Essex. I thought it was sent back then.
Hi Sheila
Apologies for the delay in replying. We have had lots of email problems over the summer. A big thank you for sending over the medal. It has been passed to ur archive team. I hope it will feature in our upcoming Open House weekend. Details here: https://programme.openhouse.org.uk/listings/8772
Thank you and our best wishes,
