Here’s Franz Ferdinand performing a ‘secret’ gig at the club in 2004!

The Mildmay is an immaculately kept working men’s club, a sober room newly resplendent in garish Christmas decorations. There’s something gloriously incongruous about seeing a band so chiselled in looks and sharp in dress performing before a curtain of multicoloured lametta.” (Yes, I had to look it up too! That’s tinsel to you and me).
And the year before, Oasis filmed a video here in front of a live audience. Liam enjoyed it so much he said afterwards “I love this place, I’m going to have my wedding here. It’s absolutely brilliant”. He never did – maybe he couldn’t get a booking. Here’s what May told a reporter at the time: “Irish manageress May Hagan warned the singer would have to hurry with his booking. She told me: ‘Liam would be welcome to make a booking if this is where he wants to go — but we will need a date because things can get quite busy'”!
