Our snooker star at the World Junior Championships!

Our young snooker star John Donovan is currently at the WSF World Junior Championship in Albania and the Mildmay Club is proud to be helping him on his way.

John, 17 has been playing in junior tournaments around the UK since the age of 11 and now he’s testing himself against the best under 19s in the world!

His father, also John, has been a club member for the past four years.

As a gesture of support for our young star, the committee have agreed to donate £250 towards John’s trip. This will hopefully help ease the burden of flight and accommodation costs for the 6 day event.

John was quick to thank the club saying “this support really helps me a lot and I really appreciate it. I’ll do my best to make the club proud of me in Albania”.

His mum, Laura, said “Thank you so much to everyone at the Mildmay club. This means a lot to John and myself”.

UPDATE: John did the club proud. He won through the knockout stage of the competition where he was narrowly beaten. We know he has a great future ahead of him. Congratulations to him, and to snooker coach John Woods who accompanied him on the trip.

Running the London Marathon to raise funds for St Joseph’s Hospice…

Club member Greg Ullyart will be running the London Marathon on Sunday 23rd April.

It’s his first marathon and he’s doing it in memory of his friend Lewis, who sadly passed away from a rare form of brain cancer in 2021.

Greg says:

In his honour, I will be running to raise money for St. Joseph’s Hospice in Hackney, where Lewis stayed for several periods over the last few years of his life.

The team at St. Joseph’s were most welcoming and warm in their care, and the Hospice facilitated Lewis, his family and friends being able to share some cherished moments during this time, including his wedding day in December 2019. I am proud to be running in Lewis’ memory and raising funds for them to continue their vital work.

I am hoping to raise £2,000 for the Hospice so please donate generously, if you are able to do so.
